There seems to be this idea that Chris McCandless was lacking common sense and that isn't true at all. Chris didn't die because of the river crossing, or running out of game. He died because a rare and toxic mold began to grow on the potato seeds he's been eating for weeks. It was nothing more than an unfortunate incident. Most people only stay in the wilderness for a matter of weeks but Chris survived months. He wasn't a misguided fool, he was a self-reliant, resourceful genius.
